Omnibus

The arts in action Introduced by Humphrey Burton
Marevna and Marika JANA BOKOVA 's ATV profile of Don McCullin last year won warm praise; this is her first film for the BBC and it is about two remarkable women, mother and daughter. Marevna (far right) is an 84-year-old painter of Russian birth; she was a friend of Picasso, one of the earliest Cubist painters and a one-time mistress of the Mexican artist Diego Rivera. Their daughter, Marika, has been a dancer and an actress and now puts on an extra ordinary one-woman cabaret show. For the past 20 years they have lived together in a house dominated by seven or eight dogs in the suburbs of London. From the outside, the house looks like any other but once you pass through the front door you enter a world of fantasy and bizarre surprises.
On the surface, the film is a documentary portrait of their life now and of Marika's cabaret performance. But it is also an evocation of the dream world which they still inhabit, a world fixed in Paris during the first three decades of this century. Over them both broods the shadow of their world-famous lover and father, Diego Rivera.

About this project

This site contains the BBC listings information which the BBC printed in Radio Times between 1923 and 2009. You can search the site for BBC programmes, people, dates and Radio Times editions.

We hope it helps you find information about that long forgotten BBC programme, research a particular person or browse your own involvement with the BBC.

Through the listings, you will also be able to use the Genome search function to find thousands of radio and TV programmes that are already available to view or listen to on the BBC website.

There are more than 5 million programme listings in Genome. This is a historical record of the planned output and the BBC services of any given time. It should be viewed in this context and with the understanding that it reflects the attitudes and standards of its time - not those of today.
