† THEO OLOF (violin)
GEZA FRID (piano)
In his early twenties Liszt was Jiving in Paris where he met Paganini and Chopin, and it was no doubt the former's virtuosity that inspired him to write a violin sonata. A unique feature of the work is that it is based on Chopin's Mazurka in C sharp minor, Op. 6 No. 2. In all four movements it is easy to follow Liszt working out his theories of the metamorphosis of themes.
The sonata, never given Its final polish, has been reconstructed by Tibor Serly, the American conductor and composer who completed Bartok's viola concerto. It is played by two visitors from Holland, Theo Olof and Geza Frid.
