In Rumania an important part of the rural gypsy musician's livelihood comes from playing at peasant weddings. These last for several days and include many ritual moments. Weddings also provide the opportunity for singing epic ballads, often of great antiquity. Part of the programme is based on conversations with three of the foremost epic singers in the Balkans.
