The instrumenr of literary criticism is language. Mr. Holloway, University Lecturer in English at Cambridge, will examine this instrument. Is it always under control or does it sometimes take on a life of its own? A preliminary difficulty is that the terms of literary criticism are not neutral; they are often judgments in themselves.
