Talk by Bernard Lewis
Professor of the History of the Near and Middle East in the University of London
Pakistan is to be an Islamic Republic. The speaker examines the way in whioh

He analyses the conflicts between such ideas and the Islamic political tradition of autocracy, but believes that there are elements in Muslim thought and ideals that could provide a starting-point for such an experiment in Islamic democracy.
