Another programme of chamber music by Schumann and songs by Fauri: May 27
It was not until 1842, when he was thirty-two and had been married two years, that Schumann turned to chamber music: in that year he produced the three string quartets, the piano quartet, and the piano quintet. The quartets, written in June and July, he dedicated to Mendelssohn. The first of the three possesses an unusual feature: although it is in A minor, and has a slow introduction in that key, the first movement proper is in F. D.C.
