A sequence of four programmes is devoted to each Poet and Critic. The first comprises a number of poems selected by the Critic as an introduction. In the second the Critic expresses his personal attitude to poetry and his appreciation of the Poet. In the third, the Poet replies. The fourth programme, introduced also by the Critic, consists of further examples of the Poet's work, which they have chosen in collaboration

Elena Gerhardt gives the first of two illustrated talks on her interpretation of Schubert's songs. This evening she has chosen:

Elena Gerhardt is no stranger to the microphone as an interpreter of Schubert, Brahms, and Wolf, the three composers with whom her art is most closely associated, but this evening she makes her first broadcast as a speaker. Mme. Gerhardt, in her two talks on ' Interpretation and Style,' will draw on her many years of experience as a Lieder singer and illustrate what she has to say with her own recordings
