played and sung by Harry Evans
The first of a series reviving popular tunes by this well-known composer
Melville Gideon first came from America to England in 1911, and opened at the London Hippodrome the following year with the Ragtime Octette. Later he became well known as an entertainer at the piano.
Joining up with Davy Burnaby and Laddie Cliff , he helped to found the Co-Optimists, and was responsible for almost every song they featured.
Some of his most famous melodies are ' Crinoline Gown ', ' I'm tickled to death I'm single ', ' When the sun goes down ' and ' If Winter Comes '.
