The Indian Queens Prize Silver Band derives its name from the village of Indian Queen, in Cornwall, where tradition says a young Indian queen was hidden to escape her pursuers. The band was founded in 1856 with a membership of five, and a repertoire of three pieces. It has had an unbroken existence, though it has changed from brass-and-reed to all-brass, and is now one of Cornwall's oldest bands. More than a hundred prizes have been won by the present members of the band.
