This is the first of a series of talks on industries in the country towns of the West. The speakers will be chosen from those engaged in the industries.
The silk mill at Sherborne has been in operation since the eighteenth century. Fabrics for Queen Victoria's dresses were produced there.
Other West-Country industries to be described in succeeding programmes include carpets, bacon, pilchards, rope, and net and tulle.
