by Sylvia Townsend Warner
Among the poems to be read this evening will be not only a selection of Miss Warner's own verse, but some poems in English by the Chinese poet, Shelley Wang , Professor of History at the National Chi-Nan University in Shanghai. Shelley Wang organised the peasant movement in the Chinese Revolution of 1925-27, and in 1933 he was obliged to leave China and came to Europe. It was during his exile that these poems were written.
Sylvia Townsend Warner , novelist and poet, lives in Dorset.
