The City of Bristol Orchestra was formed in March, 1935, by Maurice Alexander , who is director and leader, and it broadcast for the first time in May of that year.
Alexander was a pupil of Pollitzer, and gave his first recital at the age of seven. He was in Sir Henry Wood 's original Queen's Hall Orchestra for five years, and has been soloist at many important concerts. He started the Clifton Chamber Concerts in 1901, and has been a teacher of the violin at Clifton College since 1919.
