Colin Howson was first engaged as a church organist when he was twelve, and as a cinema organist when he was seventeen. Before taking up his appointment at the Regent Theatre, Bristol, he was at Sheffield, Leicester, and London, and he was also a pianist in Sidney Phasey 's Orchestra (now at the New Victoria, Bradford).
