This is the first time that work of the composer Justus Wetzel will be heard in this country. His compositions include a great number of songs—settings of some of the finest poems by the German poets, Hesse, Goethe, Spitteler, and Eichendorff.
The composer was born in 1879 in Kyritz. He studied medicine and biology at Berlin University, and philosophy at Marburg. Later, he graduated in zoology. He soon realised, however, that science would leave him unsatisfied, and that he must turn to music. In 1925 he was appointed as professor to the Akademie fur Kirchen-und Schulmusik at Berlni-Charlottenburg.
