'THEY SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES'

Regional Programme London

A radio inquiry into
' Mass Observation' with Tom Harrisson and Charles Madge , pioneers of the movement
Illustrated by recordings made in London and the North
Produced by Olive Shapley
Of the subjects already explored by the Mass Observers only a few can be illustrated in this programme. They will include the reactions of the man-in-the-street to international crises, to National Service, and also the phenomenon of the Lambeth Walk.
At the same time, the programme will also provide a platform for a discussion of the methods of sociological research used by Mass Observation, and it is hoped that the Hon. Harold Nicolson , Dr. Raymond Firth (of the London School of Economics), and Mr. K. de B. Codrington , the anthropologist, will take part.
