YOUNKMAN AND HIS CZARDAS BAND

A play by Mary Stocks and John Orchard , produced by Olive Shapley
This play is about an unemployed man who gets a ' scabbing ' (black-legging) job at a mill where a strike is being broken. Uncomfortable at what he is doing, Jim Bamford suffers as he works, and wonders whether he should ' go through with it '.
This true picture of industrial depression is by John Orchard , who has himself known long periods of unemployment ; the other author, Mrs. Stocks, helped to put the story into dramatic form.
