This inscription, taken from a. pamphlet of 1615 now in the British Museum, the title page of which is reproduced above, describes a conversation of which some part will be broadcast in this programme.
Those who complain that winter becomes more severe as the years go by would do well to listen to this programme. In the year 1614 there were fifty days of frost and snow from mid-January, followed by a huge thaw and floods, the like of which have not been seen since.
