Part 1—' Enigma Variations ' (Elgar)
Elgar dedicated each of the Variations of this work to a personal friend, and the resulting contrast of moods is altogether delightful. It was first played at St. James' Hall, London, on June 19, 1899. The conductor was Hans Richter , who was himself a great friend of the composer.
