'Fairy Tales in Music'
This evening's programme offers a vivid and comprehensive survey of fairy music. Each item is a master-piece of its kind. Even witchery is represented in the form of Lyadov's musical picture, ' Baba Yaga ', which illustrates that popular and picturesque Russian fairy-story of Baba Yaga, the witch. She rides through the air in a mortar, propelling it with a pestle, and covering up her tracks by trailing behind her her broom. When at home, she busily uses the pestle and mortar for pounding human bones.
