' Proinnsias Dubh '
Robert Irvine
Proinnsias Dubh pursued his calling as a highwayman in the lower part of County Fermanagh and Donegal. He seems to have begun life as a small farmer. His career as a highwayman came to an end in 1829, when he was hanged in Enniskillen Gaol. Fuller details of his life form the subject of tonight's talk by Robert Irvine , an enthusiastic Gaelic scholar. In spite of his end, about which there is no question, there is still a belief that Proinnsias Dubh was ' an honest, peaceful, upright man.'
