An eye-witness account of the Association football match by J. W. McConnell
The Glentoran Football Club was founded in 1882, and is known throughout Belfast as the East-End Club. Its present home is at the Oval, the fifth ground it has had in the city. The four other grounds have had to be sacrificed to the demands of the city's expansion.
The Cliftonville Club, founded in 1879, is the premier amateur football club in Ireland, and the only Irish club ever to have competed for the English Amateur Cup. The present ground was taken over in the season 1889-90.
