Bizet's incidental music for
' The Woman of Aries ', by Alphonse Daudet-2
The BBC Midland Orchestra
Leader, Alfred Cave
Conducted by Leslie Heward
The BBC Midland Singers
Chorus Master, Edgar Morgan
The programme devised by Leslie Heward
Production by Anthony McDonald
Like Grieg's Peer Gynt music, Bizet's music for Daudef's L'Arlesienne has become far better known than the play that inspired it. These two programmes, the first of which was broadcast last week, are designed to show the music in its original setting.
Listeners who heard last week's programme will remember that Frederi is madly in love with the ' Arlesienne ', a woman of doubtful character, but has tried to forget her by turning to the charming peasant girl Vivette.
