Founded in 1697, the church from which the broadcast comes this evening has exercised considerable influence in both the town and the county, and has been called the ' cathedral of Northamptonshire Nonconformity '. The present buildings were opened in 1863. In a succession of worthy ministers two names stand out-the Rylands, father and son, both of whom attained national eminence, and held the pastorate between them for nearly forty years.
The present minister, who was born in South Africa, was called to the pastorate as a student from Cambridge in 1932.
