The history of this Choral Society began in the 18th century. The Worcester contingent for the Three Choirs Festival is drawn from its members. Elgar got some of his early orchestral experience with it, and for several years he trained the instrumental branch. His earliest important choral work, ' The Black Knight', was given by the Society in 1893, the composer conducting.
