W. H. Squire was born at Ross-on-Wye, in Herefordshire. One of the ' Midland Composers ' series of concerts was devoted to his work, and he has given a number of recitals. He was solo 'cellist at the Royal Opera, Covent Garden, for four years before becoming a professor at the R.C.M. and the Guildhall School of Music.
