The 4th and 7th Dragoon Guards were amalgamated as a result of the Geddes Economy proposals in 1922. As separate regiments they date from the seventeenth century-the 4th having been formed by James II at the time of the Monmouth Rebellion, and the 7th by William III in 1688. Both won ten Battle Honours in the Great War.
