S
Jean Frangaix belongs to the postwar generation of French composers. He was born at Le Mans in 1912, but later went to Paris, where he studied at the Conservatoire under Nadia Boulanger. In a RADIO Times article on the composer, Alan Frank summed up his music as follows: 'Françaix's music is not quite like any other music written today. It is entertaining, but not humorous in the sense that Poulenc's is..... It is music that is as delicate as the lightest white wine imaginable and the one should be listened to exactly as the other is drunk. You will probably find that it lacks substance, but you will certainly not find it stodgy.'
