A commentary on the 120 yards hurdles, 880 yards, 440 yards, and 440 yards hurdles, by H. M. Abrahams , from the White City
Stadium
Athletes from the U.S.A., Belgium, Canada, Eire, Estonia, France, Hungary, Italy, Norway, and Poland are to meet the best athletes in Great Britain in thirteen events.
The Americans include
Perrin Walker , over 6 ft. 5 in. in height, one of the tallest sprinters in the world ; Melvin Walker , their Negro high-jump champion who last year cleared 6 ft. 10 in.; Chuck Fenske , second to the great Glenn Cunning -ham in the American Championships this July and credited with inside 4 min. 1 1 sec. for the mile ; and Cornelius Warmerdam , who has vaulted 14 ft. 6 in.—4 inches higher than the British record.
Outstanding among the Europeans is M. Szaho who holds the European record for 1,500 metres and the world's record for two miles.
Donald Finlay will have to try conclusions with Allan Tolinich , who was second in the American Championships. The world's record-holder, S. C. Wooderson , will not compete in his star event, the mile, but will be running in the 880 yards. In addition to commentaries on the 120 yards hurdles, 880 yards, 440 yards, and 440 yards hurdles, listeners will probably hear accounts of the other events.
