Albert Cazabon , who nine years ago was well known in London as a violinist and theatre conductor, recently returned from Australia, where he conducted the City of Sydney Orchestra, gave violin recitals, and lectured at various important Australian musical centres. In these directions he has also done a great deal of work for the Australian Broadcasting Commission. Since Mr. Cazabon's return, he has formed the Cazabon Trio, which has every promise of being a very popular radio combination. The personnel consists of Albert Cazabon (violin), John Moore (cello), and Bernard Crooke (piano). The two last mentioned artists are well known to listeners both in light music and chamber music combinations.

Montague Brearley (violin) Esther Fisher (pianoforte)
' The Father of Violin Playing’
Arcangelo Corelli - who, living between 1653 and 1713, was of the musical generation before Handel-is considered [he father of violin playing as we know it today. He was one of the greatest violinists of his time and instituted many reforms in both playing the violin and composing for it. He was, for instance, one of the founders of sonata form, of which the present Sonata in F is an interesting specimen.
Schumann's Sonatas
Schumann's two sonatas for violin and piano, Op. 105 and Op. 121, were both composed in 1851 in Düsseldorf. The first was published in 1852 and the second in 1853. Some critics claim that these sonatas reflect the unhappy period of Schumann's life at that time. Be that as it may, they are certainly both very dramatic in character and, if not exactly models of musical construction, are full of fine music.

Regional Programme Northern

Recorded on board T.S.S. Stratheden during her trials last December by Richard North
The programme arranged by Victor Smythe
T.S.S. Stratheden is a 25,000-ton ' ship built for the Australian service of the P. & 0. by Vickers-Armstrong at Barrow. She made her trial trip on the Clyde just before Christmas, and North Region's recording unit - like the Stratheden, doing something for the first time - went along with her. Listeners on the North and main Regional wavelengths are to hear the results this evening. The programme will be repeated on both wavelengths on Wednesday afternoon.
