Bruckner Festival Concert, continued'

The small city of Linz has long been celebrated for its association with the names of three great composers; Mozart, Beethoven, and Bruckner. In the early days of their married life Mozart and Constanze stayed there and during that time he wrote the ' Linz ' Symphony. Beethoven stayed in the city on many occasions and it was there that he completed in 1812 his Eighth Symphony, which is being broadcast this evening.
Bruckner, however, had closer associations, as for thirteen years he held the post of cathedral organist at Linz. When Bruckner later went to live in Vienna he continually returned for short periods to Linz. Indeed, Linz has now become the centre of Bruckner worship, for each year a festival chiefly devoted to his works is held in his honour.
