Saints for Sunday Afternoon
Written by Joan Windham
Read by: Carleton Hobbs
Betty Hardy
S. Christopher , S. Columba , and S. Teresa
These stories from Miss Windham's * Six O'Clock Saints ' were written ' with the object of making children familiar with the Saints as Ordinary People to whom interesting things have happened'. Younger listeners especially will be interested in these stories which might almost have been told by one of themselves, so free are they from conventional religious terms and the stuff that tears are made of.

(Seventh Season-12)
STEFFI GEYER (violin)
THE BBC ORCHESTRA (Section B)
Leader, PAUL BEARD
Conducted by VOLKMAR ANDREAE

Dr. Volkmar Andreae was born in Berne in 1879. After studying first in his native town and afterwards at the Cologne Conservatoire, he went to the Munich Court Opera as sub-conductor, and then held various posts in Switzerland. He was finally appointed Conductor and Musical Director of the Zurich Tonhalle Symphony Orchestra, and in 1914 he became Principal of the Zurich Conservatoire. Andreae is one of Switzerland's most important composers, and his published works include a symphony, a symphonic fantasy for tenor solo, chorus, orchestra, and organ, a string quartet, two piano trios, a violin sonata, and piano pieces, besides this Rhapsody, which is dedicated to Miss Steffi Geyer, who will introduce it to England at this concert.

An appeal on behalf of THE NORTH KENSINGTON COMMUNITY CENTRE by T. S. ELIOT , Litt.D.
This Community Centre serves the needs of 6,000 people-including 3,000 children-who have been moved to fiats from overcrowded tenements. It provides a meeting place, a small hall and a canteen, and opportunities for recreation and physical culture. There is an evening institute for recreational classes for boys and girls ; an infant welfare centre ; and also a nursery school.
The centre has now been open for a year, but has already proved inadequate to the demands made upon it. A large hall is an urgent necessity for use as a gymnasium, for showing educational films, and for staging plays. To build it, and to create a fund towards the heavy cost of maintenance of the whole building, an appeal is being made for £6,000.
Contributions will be gratefully acknowledged, and should be addressed to T. S. Eliot, Esq., Litt.D., North Kensington Community Centre, [address removed]
