Phyllis Scott at the Piano

It was inevitable for these two popular singers to meet, for Phyllis Scott and her original partner were the first to broadcast this particular type of folk song. John Rorke has been singing old songs since the days when, as a young man, he was the first on the music-hall stage to sing them.

Years ago he used to go round to the publishers for old songs, and they inevitably said: "Can't you sing something new?" He always told them that one day they would be glad he was singing the old ones. With albums of old songs selling freely today, his words have come true; but then, he has largely contributed to their popularity by singing them for years at the microphone. He was actually doing so at Cardiff as long ago as 1924.
