' CHINA IN THE MELTING POT '—VI

Regional Programme Midland

Professor P. M. Roxby
(From North Regional)
Professor Roxby, in this concluding talk, sums up the factors at work in the reconstruction of China. All the changes in agriculture, transport, education and the structure of government he has described in previous talks are particular phases of a revolution that breaks with the traditions of four thousand years and aims at establishing China a world-power in the modern political and economic sense.
This national movement is largely the inspiration of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, 'the Lenin of China.' It draws its democratic and republican ideals from the West and methods of mass education and propaganda from Soviet Russia. Its immediate aims are to abolish unequal treaties with foreign Powers and to unite China under an honest national government.
