THE B.B.C. ORCHESTRA

National Programme London

ALEC WHITTAKER (Oboe)
THE B.B.C. ORCHESTRA
(Section G)
(Led by Manus O'Donnell )
Conducted by EDWARD CLARK
To those listeners who already know and appreciate his orchestral suites, The Fountains of Rome and The Pines of Home, a new work by Ottorino Respighi is particularly acceptable. This suite, however, is not made up of original compositions, but is a transcription of ancient dance tunes by Italian composers of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. But since we know from his arrangement of Rossini s music in La Boutique Fantasque how skilfully and pleasingly Respighi handles other people's music, we can anticipate with complete confidence a charming addition to the orchestral repertory.
