Mind Picture : The Scene is laid in the paved Court outside the Roman Citadel in Jerusalem.
At the back is the barrack wall, pierced in the centre by a double bronze door; beyond is the deep blue of the sky. On either side are the battlemented parapets overlooking the City. The Citadel is placed on a hill above the Town, and in front of the Court are narrow stone stair-cases leading to the streets below.
