Turning over the leaves of his diary, Alexander Spinnle Shanks , Esquire, of Aberdeen, recalls the time when he was styled the Spinsters' Salvation ani branded the Bachelors' Bane; when for a fleeting month, he was the Mogul of the Marriage Mart
Spinnle's complaint tonight is that while it always takes two people to make a marriage, a third party is sometimes required to hasten the arrival of ' the happy day '. Mr. Shanks is much too wise in his old age to accept the duties of Impresario for Happiness, but there was a time when he was prepared to tamper with anything. The old gentleman comes to the microphone at fairly regular six-weekly intervals throughout the year and has drawn to himself as a diarist a world of attention. But so far no publisher has wanted to print his works.
