Five characters in search of the authors - Barry Took and Marty Feldman
Starring Kenneth Horne
with Kenneth Williams, Hugh Paddick, Betty Marsden, Bill Pertwee
Music by The Fraser Hayes Four
Paul Fenoulhet and the Hornblowers
Announcer, Douglas Smith

Round the Horne
IT has often been said that a comedy team as popular as Kenneth Horne supported by Kenneth Williams, Hugh Paddick, Betty Marsden, and Bill Pertwee can be hilariously funny without the aid of any script at all. 'They'd get laughs reading the telephone directory!' is a comment often made about them. This is true, up to a point-Kenneth Williams saying simply 'Good evenin" is good for a laugh - but after that comes the need for 'brilliant' script-writing, a fact which the cast is the first to admit.
In this new series the writers are Barry Took and Marty Feldman. They have already done a considerable amount of research with a view to finding new sources of comedy material - or that's what I assumed when they asked to borrow a copy of Hansard! They even went to the trouble of asking whether it was possible to get an advance box of 1966 Christmas crackers, but I told them gently that a series of mottoes was hardly what was required.
But seriously though (as they are always saying), everyone in the show has great confidence in the two lads, and I feel sure that the combined talents of cast and writers will soon persuade you to postpone that Sunday nap and, instead, make a family circle Round the Horne. (John Simmonds)
