Oxford challenges Cambridge
Commentary by John Snagge , assisted by G. D. Clapperton and Paul Massey , former Oxford and Cambridge Blues respectively, from a launch following the race
The increase in the cost of staging the Boat Race confronts both Boat Clubs today with a serious problem. Unlike most sporting events, no gate can be charged, and in 1947 an Official Souvenir Programme was introduced. The revenue from this programme is of great importance to both clubs This year's programme is of special significance because it is a historic souvenir of the one hundredth race. It has 40 pages with) a large number of illustrations spanning the years since the first race in 1829, and contains several articles, group photographs, caricatures, pen-pictures and facsimile signatures of the crews. The statistical information includes the results of all previous races. Copies can be obtained 'price Is. 2d., poM paid) from Programme Publications, 19 Clarges Street, London,
