Interlude. Gaelic Service

BBC Home Service Scottish

At 10.40 on October 9 the inhabitants of the tiny Italian mountain town of Longarone slept peacefully in their beds. A few minutes later the lucky ones awoke to find themselves fighting for life in a blackness filled with crashing masonry and swirling water. The unlucky ones-nearly two thousand of them-were swept down to unknown burial places beneath the stony bed of the Piave River.
