Introduced by JOHN GREENSLADE
Market Day
As long ago as 1252 farmers around the old market town of Hailsham in Sussex met in the main street on Wednesdays to sell their produce and to discuss their problems. This continued until 1868 when the present market was established and weekly sales of fat and store cattle, calves, sheep, pigs, poultry, and other farm and market garden produce were conducted by auction.
In this programme, direct from Hailsham Cattle Market. JOHN GREENSLADE and ' BRYAN PLATT talk to auctioneers, sellers, and buyers about the trade and other current farming topics
