by EDMUND GOSSE read by Alec Clunes arranged for broadcasting in fifteenepisodes by H. Oldfield Box PART 10
In part 9 Edmund Gosse described how his father overcame the opposition to his being received into ' the communion of the Saints '-the Plymouth Brethren-on the terms of an adult; and the ceremony of his baptism, which impressed the writer quite as much as it did the large congregation who came to witness it, and took place on his tenth birthday. But while proud of his new status, he also felt the burden of it-for in all his actions he was now expected to be a shining light to others. He began, in fact, to see his ' dedication ' as a cheerless fate, from which, however, no escape was possible.
