CHAPTER 2
In Chapter i Ellen Terry told of her birth in 1847 and her early upbringing in various theatrical lodgings, for both parents were on the stage. They reared a large and happy family, of whom Kate and Ellen showed the most professional talent. Ellen made her first appearance in 1856 at the Princess's Theatre in London, when she appeared with Charles Kean in A Winter's Tale.
