A girl with diabetes tells the story of the discovery of insulin
In 1869 at the age of 22, Paul Langer hans, a young German doctor, described certain peculiar islets' of cells in the pancreas. Langerhans died young, but after his death it was realised that these islets were responsible for the prevention of diabetes by producing a substance which we now call insulin.
