Sonatina, Op. 80 for violin and piano played by Jean Pougnet (violin)
Wilfrid Parry (piano)
Sibelius 's early training as a violinist led him to compose a number of chamber works which he has since discarded as immature. Among his very few later achievements in this genre, the String Quartet in D minor (Voces intimae) is outstanding. His Sonatina for violin and piano, written in 1915, is a less important work but it contains much delightful and characteristic music. There are three movements. Harold Rutland
