3 — Jarlshof
Fifty years ago the ruins of Jarlshof (the Earl's House) were the only signs of human settlement on a small headland near. Sumburgh on Mainland, Shetland. Since then archaeological excavation has revealed evidence of occupation from the late Stone Age onwards, and the site is now protected by the Ministry of Works as an ancient monument.
In this programme the story of Jarlshof is reconstructed by John Stewart a native of Shetland and Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries (Scotland)
J. R. C. Hamilton archaeologist. Inspector of Ancient Monuments, Ministry of Works
(Scotland)
