The recently published book by Major W. B. Thomas. D.S.O., M.C. adapted for broadcasting by the author
Programme produced by Marjorie Banks
This young New Zealand officer, seriously wounded and taken prisoner during the Battle of Crete, tells of his escape and of his struggle to keep free all through a wartime winter and spring in the self-contained, woman-less kingdom of twenty-one monasteries—Mount Athos. From there he crossed the Aegean Sea in a small boat, landed in Turkey, and rejoined his unit and fought with the New Zealand forces throughout the North African and Italian campaigns
