Chips Rafferty , Daphne Campbell
In 1942 the Japanese invasion of northern Australia seemed inevitable and a scorched earth policy was planned. But drover Dan McAlpine knows that 1,000 head of cattle can help win the war and with a small band of helpers starts a trek across some of the toughest country in the world.
Ealing's first production in Australia was a notable achievement for director Harry Watt and his crew, in their vivid depiction of a 2,000-mile cattle drive.
