A selection of some of the world's great paintings.
This week's theme: Self-Portraits Rembrandt (1606-1669)
Self-Portrait as the Apostle Paul
(Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam)
Unashamedly Rembrandt's favourite subject all through his life was himself. There are almost a hundred self-portraits-paintings, drawings and etchings - which record his passage from youth to old age with absolute accuracy. Yet there are aspects of this painting, dated 1661, which indicate that it cannot be interpreted as a straightforward self-portrait.

with Tony Curtis , Susan Harrison
In this savage vision of the yellow press, Burt Lancaster stars as J. J. Hunsecker , a vicious, megalomaniac New York gossip columnist read by millions and sought after by both the famous and the infamous. When he decides to break up his sister's romance with a young jazz musician his hatchet man is Sidney Falco , a scheming press agent hungry for success and willing to go to any extreme to get items into Hunsecker's column. Alexander Mackendrick brilliantly directed this melodramatic slice of Broadway life.
