The theatre of Jean-Louis Barrault jean-louis BARRAULT'S contributions to the theatre of this century are immense and wide-ranging. He is a great classical actor who is also a leading member of the avant-garde, a film star (best remembered for his star role in the film classic Les En-, fants du Paradis) and for 29 years the manager of the only privately-run theatre company in the world to be commercially successful with I an uncommercial repertory.
The Compagnie Renaud-Barrault, which he founded with his wife Madeleine, has been without a permanent home in Paris since the ' events' of 1968. Last year. Jean-Louis Barrault rented a railway station in the heart of the city and set about building a theatre. The film follows the building of the theatre, from its beginnings among the rubble of the old station to its triumphant first-night opening. Interwoven with the theatre construction sequences, JIM DOUGLAS HENRY interviews Barrault about his career, marriage and future. Written and narrated by JIM DOUGLAS HENRY
