Theirs is no ordinary fishing-boat. It's 55 feet long and is launched into the Atlantic breakers by a team of oxen. It takes 48 men, working like Ben-Hurs in some ancient galley, to pull the four vast oars.
Tonight Chronicle reports how one of these unique craft from Portugal, of which only three are left in use, was saved for posterity and was brought to England by the Exeter Maritime Museum. And how does a living boat, features of which date back to Roman times, compare with the Brigg boat, a craft from 500 Be that has been excavated by the National Maritime Museum? Narrator GARY WATSON
